5 Red Flags When Hiring an Event Decorator
The patterns we have seen go wrong — and the questions that surface them before you have signed a contract.

Five things that should make you pause
After enough events, you learn to recognise the patterns. These five red flags are the ones we wish more families knew about.
- A round-number quote. Real quotes are messy because real events are messy. A round number usually means a round estimate.
- No site visit before the proposal. Anyone proposing decor without seeing the venue is proposing decor for a generic venue.
- No on-site lead named. "We will assign a team" is not the same as "your on-site lead will be X, and here is their phone number".
- Reluctance to share recent work. Recent work — not the showpiece event from 2018.
- Pricing changes after you confirm dates. This one is decisive. Walk away.
